CFA Produces Video About Asian Families

JUNE 18TH 2014

More than 500 of religious and lay educators from 14 Asian countries, 60 Philippine dioceses and 20 lay organizations gathered from May 13-16 for the Asian Conference on Families, organized by the Philippine Bishops as a celebration of the 30th Anniversary of the Charter of the Rights of the Family. A special assembly was held specifically for catechists on first 2 days at the Paco Catholic School wherein CFA was tapped to produce a short video presentation to illustrate the lights and shadows surrounding the families of the continent as perceived by media.

The video entitled The Changing Faces of the Asian Family presented emerging situations, attitudes and beliefs that adversely affect the relationship of husbands and wives, parents and children. Fr. Esmeraldo Enalpe, OFM, a canon lawyer and rector of the St. Anthony Shrine served as resource speaker, while clips and excerpts from Asian productions were used to support his points.

The production was well received by participants who saw familiar shows representing recognizable real-life situations.

In that same conference, guest of honor Bishop Jean Lafitte, Secretary of the Vatican’s Pontifical Council for the Family urged attendees to stand up and make counter measures against government policies, as well cultural practices detrimental to the survival of the Catholic family.

Despite the changing lifestyles in today’s modern society, the family remains the basic unit that should be nurtured and protected.
