CFA Conducts Values Integration Seminar in Iligan

Some 167 Christian Living and academic teachers, school principals and coordinators from 16 private schools in Iligan attended the seminar-workshop on “The Integration of Values in Academic Subjects” conducted recently by CFA’s Catechetical Resource Center (CRC). The 3-day seminar-workshop, facilitated by CFA’s CRC head Evelyn Alinea, aimed at enabling participants to understand, define and apply the mechanics and process ofintegrating values in academic and religion subjects. The event was held at the Corpus Christ Catholic School in Iligan City, Lanao Del Norte on October 25 to 27, 2011.

The seminar-workshop addressed several values integration themes on character, moral,personal, social and cultural development, as well as on citizenship education. It focused on various processes, including formulation of topics or subject matter into three levels,guidelines in values integration, celebration of life and application to life. It ended withthe participants being able produce their own value-laden lesson plans in a particularsubject of their choice.

In another catechetical gathering, the Diocese of Boac invited Ms. Alinea to be one of the resource speakers during its Catechetical Day celebration last October 8, 2011. The celebration, which took place at St. Ignatius of Loyola Parish in Torrijos, Marinduque,had as its theme: “20th year of the Catechism of the Catholic Church: A Celebration,Commitment and Challenge.” At the gathering of about 1,700 catechists, pastoral workers, students and teachers from 14 parishes of the Diocese, Ms. Alinea gave testimony to the importance of committing one’s self to the mission of catechesis.
