Primetime TV News Features CHAMPS Comics

The CHAMPS comicbook for voters’education, which CFA has recently produced in collaboration with PPCRV, has been prominently and positively featured on primetime television news and the daily newspapers. GMA7 first ran its report on February 7, 2013 on 24 Oras primetime evening newscast while GMA News TV featured it later on State of the Nation with Jessica Soho, and again on the late night GMA7 newscast Saksi. The next day, the report on CHAMPS appeared again in GMA News TV’s noontime newscast Balitanghali.

In the report, PPCRV chair Ambassador Tita de Villa described the CHAMPS comics story and its super heroes, as something “super” which would surely attract young voters. Copies of the comics are now in great demand from schools and parishes all over the country.

COMELEC spokesman James Jimenez was all praises for the board game “Voters Tsunami” featured in the CFA comicbook. He said he liked the board game very much because it challenges voters. Jimenez cited the benefit of the project: “That will definitely augment our efforts at voters’ education.”

ABS-CBN News filed its report on February 7: “ Move Over, Marvel, Comic book for Voters Out“. There was also wide coverage of the comics and the featured games in various newspapers. The Philippine Daily Inquirer had a story titled “ Lexa, Cyberoid et al. battle corrupt politicos” on February 7. The Philippine Star ran an article on February 11 entitled “ Comics Used to Lure Young Voters.” Manila Bulletin also posted this story: Superheroes Invade Philippine Elections.
